2020 has been quite a year for everyone. Entire communities shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic—something we felt locally here in Lancaster. Although challenges abounded this year, LCC made the strategic decision to move forward with its renovation and expansion project: A Defining Moment. Read on to find out why!
Club + Resort Business recently featured the Lancaster Country Club in its “The Road Back” video series. Designed to provide fresh insights into how clubs are rising to the occasion during the pandemic, C+RB highlighted how careful planning of contingencies, “off-ramp” options and effective communication strategies helped the club quickly restart the project and begin to see immediate benefits even during the pandemic. Learn more about LCC’s new upgrades, how the pandemic affected these plans, and how you can expect to enjoy LCC in the future.
LCC was incredibly excited to release the plans for our $20 million renovation this year. However, in true 2020 fashion, everything shut down here in Pennsylvania because of the pandemic. Work ceased as we stayed home to protect ourselves and our families.
Despite the shutdown, careful planning enabled our team to move forward with these new designs. Lancaster Country Club COO and General Manager, Ryan Grantruth, says, “This was part of the original planning process that began three and a half years ago, having a series of off-ramps along the way in case of economic or membership downturn. Well, here we are! Nobody quite predicted a pandemic, but the plan has worked.”
In fact, our careful planning worked out so well that LCC was able to accelerate construction—which was no small feat during a pandemic that caused labor and material shortages. In spite of everything, LCC was able to strengthen its position going into 2021.
Andrea Zimmerman, Director of Memberships & Communications for the club, says, “As we welcomed the summer season, we had 31 new members join in a 45-day period—double what we saw in the previous two years combined. And then when the local newspaper printed a special section about the project in a Sunday edition in September, I came in on Monday and found 20 more new inquiries. All of that has been very encouraging in showing how moving ahead with the project is already bringing strong new interest in our club.”
With even more members joining LCC, it’s clear that 2021 has a lot of great things in store for our community.
Lancaster Country Club has served the Lancaster, PA community for 120 years. We’re particularly proud of these significant infrastructure improvements, which will give members even more family-friendly and athletically challenging experiences at the country club for generations to come.
